The Euston departures board – a proud new home for a piece of railway history

In 2023, the old Euston departures board was replaced with new digital displays around the station, to enable improved information for passengers and reduce overcrowding. This presented Network Rail with the problem of what to do with the old board, an important piece of rail history.
It was in danger of being scrapped until Network Rail approached several museums and collections, including The One:One Collection, to ask whether they could preserve it.
With no apparent interest elsewhere, we agreed to accept it and to install it in The One:One Collection building and to have it re-linked to live departures. The costs involved in transporting and installing the board were significant, and were mostly borne by Locomotive Storage Ltd, with a welcome contribution in the form of a grant from the Railway Heritage Trust.
By June 2024 the board was in place, and whenever we are able to welcome visitors to The One:One Collection they can now monitor Euston departures live via this piece of railway history as they view the locomotives and rolling stock from the mezzanine level.
