BR Class 37 No. 37 190
The British Rail Class 37 is a diesel-electric locomotive, also known as the English Electric Type 3. The Class was ordered as part of the British Rail modernisation plan and were numbered in two series, D6600-D6608 and D6700-D6999. The Class 37 became a familiar sight on many parts of the British Rail network, in particular forming the main motive power for Inter-City services in East Anglia and within Scotland. They also performed well on secondary and inter-regional services for many years. The Class 37s are known to some railway enthusiasts as ‘Tractors’, a nickname due to the agricultural sound of the diesel engine of the locomotive. Despite all members of the build now being over 50 years old, over 60 locomotives are still mainline registered and remain active undertaking a variety of passenger, freight and departmental duties on the national rail network. Approximately 30 locomotives have been preserved. BR 37 190 is currently in Margate at The One:One Collection.

‘BLUE PETER’ : BR 60532
CLASS A2 : 4-6-2
‘Blue Peter’ is the last remaining LNER Class A2 Pacific, and was one of the most powerful express passenger locomotives in the UK. She was one of 14 Class A2s designed by Arthur Peppercorn, and entered service in 1948 just weeks after the amalgamation of the Big Four railway companies into the newly nationalised British Railways. By the late 1960s her owners formed a new society to support the loco, whose president was none other than the author of the Thomas the Tank Engine books, the Rev. Wilbert Awdry! Since her withdrawal in 2002 ‘Blue Peter’ has been on public display, firstly at Darlington Railway Museum, latterly at the Barrow Hill Roundhouse in Derbyshire. Cosmetically restored and lovingly looked after in her stunning original BR Apple Green livery, she has remained a popular attraction.
In October 2014 the Royal Scot Locomotive and General Trust purchased ‘Blue Peter’ with the intention of returning her to steam for future generations to experience, and her overhaul to mainline condition has now begun at Crewe.
