BR Class 37 No. 37 190
The British Rail Class 37 is a diesel-electric locomotive, also known as the English Electric Type 3. The Class was ordered as part of the British Rail modernisation plan and were numbered in two series, D6600-D6608 and D6700-D6999. The Class 37 became a familiar sight on many parts of the British Rail network, in particular forming the main motive power for Inter-City services in East Anglia and within Scotland. They also performed well on secondary and inter-regional services for many years. The Class 37s are known to some railway enthusiasts as ‘Tractors’, a nickname due to the agricultural sound of the diesel engine of the locomotive. Despite all members of the build now being over 50 years old, over 60 locomotives are still mainline registered and remain active undertaking a variety of passenger, freight and departmental duties on the national rail network. Approximately 30 locomotives have been preserved. BR 37 190 is currently in Margate at The One:One Collection.

BR 92212
STANDARD CLASS 9F : 2-10-0
The 9Fs, like all of the BR Standard locomotives, were designed by Robert Riddles to offer greater efficiency, reliability and ease of maintenance, and were one of the most powerful locomotive types ever built in Britain. They were built to work the heavy coal and aggregates trains and had almost unsurpassed levels of grip, allowing them to climb steep hills with heavy trains. Despite being primarily freight engines, the 9Fs sometimes found themselves pulling express passenger trains. On one occasion a 9F was booked to haul a train that would normally have been operated with an express locomotive like ‘Bittern’, and was recorded at a speed of more than 90mph. This means the engines wheels would have been going round more than eight times per second!
During her career ‘92212’ was based across the country, from Banbury to Bath and Tyseley to Carnforth covering all five regions of British Railways. She was eventually retired in January 1968 less than 10 years after being built.
‘92212’ has now been restored to running condition and can be found running at the Watercress Line in Hampshire, where she is a bit of a favourite with the crews.
